Actor-filmmaker Anoop Menon’s directorial debut Padma is set to release on another OTT platform. The film, which hit theatres a year ago in July 2022 and dropped on Amazon Prime Video in November and is available to stream on YouTube, is now locked to begin streaming on its third OTT platform.

It’s not uncommon for Malayalam movies to release on more than one OTT platform. Several films including Parvathy Thiruvothu and Biju Menon’s Aarkkariyam, Tovino Thomas’ Kala and most recently, Lukman Avaran’s Jackson Bazaar Youth have been released on multiple OTT platforms for viewers in India. However, it’s the first time that a mainstream film is set to drop on its third digital platform almost eight months after its initial OTT release.

The movie, which has National Film Award-winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi as its protagonist, is expected to begin streaming on Manorama Max and OTTplay Premium soon. The platform is yet to officially announce its release date, but it’s expected to be in the first week of August. The movie is also available to stream on Goodwill Entertainment's YouTube page.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Anoop had said that Padma – which had a three-week run in theatres – was always meant to be an OTT release. The actor, who has also written its script, said that he changed the initial plan after a few of his colleagues from the industry had watched the preview of the film and suggested that it would work in theatres – especially it being his debut directorial.

The actor also explained that the movie, which was shot while the pandemic restrictions were in full force and outdoors shoots weren’t permitted in Kerala, turned out to be a money-spinner for him as a producer. “Padma was profitable to me as a producer. I always wanted to make a movie on modern-day marriage. Considering that it was shot within those pandemic restrictions, I believe it came out well,” the actor said.

Anoop’s next production in Oh… Cinderella, which has Bigg Boss Malayalam winner Dilsha Prasannan as its lead. The actor is also part of Checkmate and the horror-mystery Pheonix.
