Many fans of actor Venkatesh heaved with a sigh of relief as Amazon Prime Video announced its content calendar for July earlier this week. They were happy to realise that the actor's much-awaited film Narappa wasn't part of the list of movies/shows to release on the platform in July. This further adds credibility to the reports that the producer Suresh Babu may not go ahead with the direct-to-OTT deal after all and instead release the movie in theatres.
For the uninitiated, several reports had hinted that Narappa was to release directly on Amazon Prime Video this July 24. However, with mounting pressure from distributors, the disappointment expressed by the fans of the actor and also because theatres may open soon, it is believed that Suresh Babu is renegotiating the digital release with the OTT platform.
A report by Greatandhra.com further suggests that Amazon Prime Video is okay with the idea of Narappa releasing in the theatres initially. It's another co-producer Thanu (who also produced Asuran) who isn't convinced about the theatrical release. Actor Venkatesh has expressed his readiness to return his remuneration in case the theatrical release doesn't rake in profits. Official confirmation of Narappa's release is expected to be out shortly.
