Mudhugauv director Vipin Das’ Antakshari, which released on the streaming platform Sony LIV a week ago, was lauded by many for being a unique psycho-thriller that blended elements of the singing game while telling a dark story about trauma and its aftermath. However, a grouse that many had was that certain arcs of the film was left incomplete.
These included portions of a dysfunctional family as well as a girl named Nayana, who was forced by a police constable to give a false testimony against an investigative officer essayed by Saiju Kurup in the film.
A few days ago, Vipin took to his social networking page to explain why these portions had to be cut. “I would like to apologise to all that we have been forced to delete some scenes due to nudity, sensual and violent content,” he wrote, adding that these scenes might have been too disturbing for the normal audience. The director also said that if these scenes were retained, it would have cleared the doubts in the minds in the viewers and also help explain the characters in the film better.
However, he said even if these were added, the character would still remain “incomplete like an antakshari game”, he said. Like the movie, which also teases a sequel, the director ended with the post promising that “Antakshari just begins now”.
The thriller, which is presented by Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph, is centered on a circle inspector, who has a fancy for antakshari. After his daughter gets attacked by an anonymous stranger who engages him in the singing game, the cop tries to track down the perpetrator, unearthing a lot of dark secrets that is set to put his and his family’s life in further danger.
The movie also has Sudhy Koppa, Priyanka Nair, Kottayam Ramesh and Shabareesh Varma in pivotal roles.
