A post by X stated that a paid campaign was being run targeting the actor. In response, Border 2 producer Nidhi Dutta condemned the alleged conspiracy and called those responsible "anti-nationals."

Quoting the tweet, Nidhi Dutta wrote, “Congratulations to all the ANTI-NATIONALS who can pay to bring down an actor playing a PVC of this country. This is YOUR film, India! Hope audiences identify and shame these people.”

On Reddit, a user posted a chat screenshot saying that the song "Ghar Kab Aaoge" from Border 2 showed messages directed at influencers targeting Varun Dhawan's acting and expression.
