Angamaly Diaries actor Antony Varghese is all set to flaunt a different avatar in his upcoming release Oh Meri Laila, which is a college romcom. The movie, which is helmed by his friend and collegemate Abhishek KS, will have Antony trying out a lighter genre for the first time in his career.

In a recent interview, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on December 23, Antony opened up about what makes it different from his previous movies such as Ajagajantharam, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil and Innale Vare, which marked his OTT debut earlier this year.

“My previous films have been about punches, kicks and blasts. I have tried to bring about a change with this movie, which I think people will be able watch ‘peacefully’. It’s got family emotions, college romance and also elements of fun that people of all ages can enjoy,” says Antony.

The actor also said that the movie has enough “to spread the festive cheer” during Christmas. “I am here because of the audience’s support and I hope the viewers will continue giving me and my film Oh Meri Laila that,” he said.

The film, which is scripted by Anuraj OB, also has Sona Olickkal, Nandana Rajan and Shivakami in pivotal roles. The movie’s director Abhishek had told us that it was Antony suggestion to do such as movie at this stage of his career, as the actor was looking for a change.

“With Antony, the movies that he has done previously were all action-oriented and had him in macho roles. He wanted a break from those roles. He knew the kind of films that I am interested in as it was also same type of film that we used to make during our college days. So, he had suggested that we make such a campus movie. It so happens that this is a genre that I am most comfortable in,” he said.
