Through his films like Article 15 and Thappad, director Anubhav Sinha has tried to use his storytelling abilities to helm thought provoking, socially relevant films that entrance audiences with its significant messaging. The director is all set to do it yet again with this upcoming directorial, titled Bheed. The film will feature Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles.
Rajkummar took to social media to announce the project, also sharing a BTS picture featuring himself, Bhumi and Anubhav. In the photograph the trio are seen going over the film’s script, with the director giving them notes. Rajkummar is seen donned in the uniform of a police officer.
Rajkummar captioned the post “Presenting #Bheed, a social drama, shedding light on the dichotomy and complexities through the toughest times our country faced!”

The upcoming film will be set against the backdrop of 2020, when the Indian government first announced a lockdown in the country, owing to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film’s release will coincide with the third anniversary of the event.
In addition to Rajkummar and Bhumi, the upcoming film will also feature Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastav, Kritika Kamra, and Karan Pandit in prominent roles.
In a statement, Anubhav said “Bheed is a story that sheds light on the social disparity that the country faced in the toughest of times. It was imperative for me to bring this story to life and share it with the audience”.
The upcoming film will be produced by Bhushan Kumar's banner T-Series and Anubhav's banner Benaras Mediaworks.Bhushan said that the film marked his and Anubhav’s third project together in 2023. The producer said that Bheed will offer a deep and insightful perspective in one of the hardest times Indian citizens have faced.
Bheed will be released in theatres on March 24, 2023.
