Anurag Basu talks about converting Jagga Jasoos into a web series; Says ‘Ranbir is extremely busy’

Ace filmmaker Anurag Basu has made various films in his 18 year long career in Bollywood. While some have been super hits, such as Murder, Barfi! and Ludo, there were a few that did not receive as much love from the audience as the filmmaker had thought. One of the biggest examples of this is his 2017 musical adventure comedy film Jagga Jasoos. Even though it had a unique story-line and popular actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were the lead stars, it failed to do well and was termed as a ‘box office bomb’.

Well, in a recent chat with Mid Day, Basu revealed that he has been approached by various OTT platforms to convert Jagga Jasoos into a web series over the past 2 years. He shared, “I wouldn’t name the platforms, but we had offers of developing it into a series. But if it didn’t work in theatres, how do we know it will work on OTT? Pritam is excited about the idea, and wants us to start working on it. However, I am in a strange space [regarding it]. When you do something with so much love and it doesn’t work, you don’t want to try it again. The idea of starting Jagga all over again is enough to give me the chills.”

Well, the taste of movie-lovers has definitely changed quite a lot in the past few years and the digital platform seems to be the best place for experimenting at the moment! But we’ll just have to wait and watch what the filmmaker finally decides. Talking about his lead star Ranbir, Basu added, “We keep talking about working together again, but that won’t happen anytime soon. Ranbir is extremely busy right now.”

Ranbir currently has four exciting projects in the pipeline-- Shamshera, Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmāstra, Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy opposite Shraddha Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.
