Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan-led Sacred Games might have set the benchmark for OTT and been the very stepping stone for the country into the digital world. In times when not many were invested into OTT, Anurag Kashyap (Haddi)'s Sacred Games brought about a change. Thus, a recent remark about the series has led to his outburst. Here's what exactly happened...
Sacred Games introduced India to the world of OTT, but the makers feel it shouldn't have been the case. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos now feels it might have been a misjudgement. He spoke about the same on Nikhil Kamath's podcast and said, "If I did it all over again, would I have done Sacred Games a couple of years later, and did things that were more populist instead? Maybe." He also noted the cultural difference in the series and India as a whole.
Anurag Kashyap, who had helmed the series along with Vikramaditya Motwane, had an interesting reaction to share. Noting the recent collaboration with Balaji Telefilms, Kashyap shared on social media, "He should have started with Saas Bahu.. he would have done well. Which he is doing now. I always knew the tech guys are dumb when it comes to story telling but @tedsarandos is the definition of dumb is what I didn’t know. Good to discover that. This explains everything now."
Based on Vikram Chandra’s novel, Sacred Games is the story of police Sartaj Singh (played by Go Goa Gone actor Saif Ali Khan) chasing a deadly criminal Ganesh Gaitonde (played by Costao actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui) after the latter promises to destroy Mumbai within a month's time. The series starred the likes of Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Pankaj Tripathi, Amruta Subhash, Elnaaz Norouzi, Rajshri Deshpande, Neeraj Kabi, Kubbra Sait and Amey Wagh in pivotal roles.
