Anurag Kashyap has finally watched the most-spoken-about Indian film since 2025 end – Dhurandhar. The filmmaker has shared his honest review on the movie, including what did not work for him. This includes a dialogue by lead actor Ranveer Singh. Kashyap also refused to speak too much about the movie’s politics and stated that if he were to discuss it, he would rather pick up the phone and call director Aditya Dhar to do that. Here’s his review on the movie…
“A spy cannot be a spy if he doesn’t have hate and angst against the enemy state. A soldier also cannot be soldier if he doesn’t have angst against the enemy state,” Kashyap shared in his note on Letterboxd, starting about how he has no issues when it comes to those factors. He went on to reveal what really left him troubled.
The filmmaker shared that his problem is with R. Madhavan’s Ek din aisa aayega dialogue as well as Ranveer Singh’s Yeh Naya India Hai, which is added right before the announcement for Dhurandhar: Part 2. “Take those two aside, it's a good film. Infact a brilliant film that’s entirely set in Pakistan,” Kashyap penned.
Recalling how he has followed Aditya Dhar since the URI director won a National Award for the movie Boond, Kashyap said that Dhar’s politics is something people could agree or disagree with, but he finds the filmmaker honest rather than an opportunist. “All his films are about Kashmir. He is a Kashmiri Pandit who has suffered. Either you argue with him or let him be. Filmmaking is top notch,” Kashyap said in defence of Dhar.
He further called out people who love The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty or House of Dynamite, by reminding them that the movies are Oscar-winning propaganda films about the USA.

Kashyap further went on to assert how he loved the filmmaking and stubbornness of Dhar when it came to Dhurandhar. He also praised Ranveer Singh as a secure actor.
Before signing off, Kashyap reasserted, “If I as a filmmaker have to argue about the politics of it, I will call Dhar. But significant film.!”
Currently, Dhurandhar’s edited version is running in theatres since January 1, 2026. The second part will release on March 19, 2026.
