Released on May 5, the Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu starrer mystery thriller film Afwaah is receiving rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. Written and directed by veteran filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, the storyline investigates the impact of a ‘vicious rumour created by the social media machinery’ on people’s lives. Now, acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap has heaped praises on Afwaah, describing it as “a banger of a film”.

The Gangs of Wasseypur director - who has previously worked with Sudhir in movies like Daas Dev, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny and Mumbai Cutting - also went ahead and said that he is dedicating upcoming neo-noir thriller Kennedy to Sudhir. Starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone, the movie is all set to be showcased as part of the ‘Midnight Screenings’ at Festival De Cannes 2023, from May 16-27.

Taking to his Instagram page, Anurag said, “The original maverick of Hindi cinema , the man I dedicate my next film to @iamsudhirmishra has made a banger of a film. It touches upon , everything that’s wrong with us today, where the social media has brought us. The lies we put out , how it affects all of us and can’t be taken back, the world then has to just breathe in and deal with the consequences. Being a good person and the good person’s silence is not a virtue anymore . Armed with brilliant performances across the board ,” Afwaah” has released today in the cinemas and is an absolutely unmissable film . @anubhavsinhaa @bhumipednekar @sumeetvyas @nawazuddin._siddiqui @mrfilmistaani @tjbhanu @eishachopra Very well done . Congratulations”.

Last month when Anurag announced that Kennedy is poised to premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Sudhir retweeted the news and wrote, “You can’t keep Kashyap down for long . Our guy is back !!!!”.

The narrative of the upcoming crime thriller film follows the journey of an insomniac ex-cop (Rahul), who although is assumed to be dead, continues to operate against the corrupt system. A Zee Studios and Good Bad Films production, the recently released first poster of Kennedy featured the title character’s (Rahul) intimidating look, while it also showed Charlie (Sunny) standing and screaming in front of a door. The poster is in tandem with the film’s intriguing police noir genre.
