After delivering fine performances in 2022 with OTT releases like Ghar Waapsi (on Disney+ Hotstar) and Thar (on Netflix), Anushka Kaushik has a long list of releases this year and promises to enthrall audiences this year with her work. Her latest release was actor-director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s web show Garmi, that sheds light on the dark side to the collusion of student politics and gundaraj.

Shooting for the web series in cities like Bhopal and Varanasi turned out to be a surreal experience for Anushka. Sharing it with OTTplay, she adds, “When I knew I was going to be a part of Garmi, I wasn’t aware it was going to be on the lines of Tigmanshu sir’s celebrated film Haasil (I would like to call it Haasil 2.0).” She was surprised to know she was put up in the same hotel that Irrfan had stayed during the shoot of Haasil.

“When I got to know that I am in the same hotel where the late legendary Irrfan Khan stayed during Haasil, I was quite excited and my joy knew no bounds. I remember telling myself that I would sleep on every bed because Irrfan sir was here,” she said the gesture was her attempt to get over the unfulfilled wish of acting with the star.

“My dream of sharing screen space with Irrfan (sir) has remained unfulfilled but we shot Garmi in the same locations where he had filmed for Haasil. It was quite surreal to spend time in the same corridor, Allahabad university. The memories are so fresh in my mind that I could feel his presence over there. I consider myself fortunate enough to be a part of team Garmi,” she adds.

Anushka has kind words to share about Tigmanshu Dhulia and calls him an institution. She said the experience of working with him was completely different than other filmmakers. “I’d never seen any filmmaker making his actors do theatre exercises on the set to make them feel at ease and understand the vibe of the situation well.” She also plays a key role in Arbaaz Khan’s Patna Shukla, that stars Raveena Tandon and the late Satish Kaushik.
