Anik Dutta’s Aparajito took Kolkata by storm soon after its release in May. Jeetu Kamal’s spotless makeup and portrayal of Satyajit Ray (Aparajito Ray, in the film) have been lauded ever since. After the film got a national release, it also travelled to UAE, with English and Arabic subtitles, and Australia. Now, Aparajito will be released in the UK in approximately 11 halls. Apart from different theatres in London, the film will also be released in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and other cities.

In an interview with Radio Bangla Net, London, Anik said that the more people watch the film the happier for us. “I am feeling great. The more people watch the film the happier we are. Also, Satyajit Ray had a deep connection with London. Aparajito focuses on the making of Ray’s first film, Pather Panchali. In our film, there is a reference point when Ray’s boss asks him to visit London for some training and he readily accepts,” the director said.

Soon after its release in Kolkata and Bengal, the film has created a stir at the box office. The film has seen housefull shows in Kolkata and Bengal for weeks. Earlier, while talking to OTTplay, Saayoni Ghosh, who plays Bijaya (Bimala, in the film) Ray, said that during the making, the team knew the film would be appreciated by a group of audience. However, the wide appreciation of the film was a pleasant surprise for them. “Honestly, I thought the film would be appreciated only by a niche audience and film buffs. In reality, the film seemed to have worked for everybody,” she told us.

The film delves into the journey of Satyajit Ray’s making of Pather Panchali. The black-and-white film represents a period piece with minute details. The film has also been lauded for impeccable makeup by Somnath Kundu and the costume by Suchishmita Dasgupta that has made Jeetu Kamal’s character authentic.
