Working with AR Rahman was described as a great experience by renowned director Gautham Vasudev Menon, who revealed that the situations for two songs in his upcoming film, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (VTK), starring Simbu, were created by none other than the Mozart of Madras himself.

During the film's audio and trailer launch event, the director discussed his experience working with Rahman. "The working process is the easiest thing that has ever happened to me. We only talk about work, films, and that particular film."

Gautham Menon went on to add, "It could be as early as 2.30 am. I'd get a phone call out of nowhere. Rahman sir, I believe, does not check the time. He'd call me saying, 'Lyricist Thamarai is online. May we talk?'. That discussion would last about two hours. We'll talk about the song's mood and lyrics."

The VTV director, further, said, in Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, there are two instances where songs appear that Rahman created. "At some point, he said, 'I see a song here, Gautham. Why can't one be written here?' And, two such situations for songs were made."

Thamarai, the lyricist, was also lauded by the filmmaker. "She'd written some lovely lyrics for a couple of songs. However, because of the lockdown and the pandemic, there were a lot of discussions online, which took place, via Skype, Zoom, and WhatsApp calls. We, of course, went to the studio and recorded it. But, as usual, it was a fantastic experience."

The two-minute-twenty-second trailer begins with GVM's voice-over, which introduces us to the protagonist Muthu, played by Silambarasan, and follows his journey from Mumbai's streets. The trailer of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu summarises Muthu's journey as he progresses through a murky, violent path into the world of crime.

With music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is set to release in theatres on September 15.
