AR Rahman on Oscars 2023: I wish team RRR the very best and hope they win

SS Rajamouli's RRR bagged the Golden Globe Award and has been nominated in two categories for the Oscars 2023. The countdown has begun for Oscar 2023 and Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman is rooting for RRR.

Rahman, who won the Oscar in 2009 for Slumdog Millionaire and was nominated in 2011 for 127 Hours, believes that considering the talent we have, if promoted correctly, India should make it to the final Oscar nomination list every year.

Recalling his win Academy Award 12 years ago, Rahman said, "After all these years, am Indian film, RRR, has been nominated for the final list. Many times, our films do not reach the Oscars, but knowing the talent we have, we should make it there every year. Most of our films do not even enter the competition. At least they (the makers of RRR) had the means to get the film to Golden Globe Awards and other promotions. That's how it works. If nobody knows about your movie, who will vote for it? So, I wish them the very best and I want them to win!"

Rahman said this while speaking to the media during the launch of the song Vaishnav Jan To from the film Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh. The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, releases in theatres on January 26.

Asked if he has any suggestions for the Oscar red carpet for team RRR, Rahman said, "I think they got a good rehearsal at the Golden Globes, so they know what to do." He added, "I genuinely hope that they win, because it is a win for India. Look, I do not know what's going to happen eventually, because there is tough competition, but the song has potential; I see a chance at winning."

RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles, has been nominated under the Best Original Song category at Oscars 2023.
