Le Musk, an upcoming virtual reality film, directed by none other than music composer AR Rahman, will have its world premiere at the Cannes XR program. The 36-minute-long film will mark his directorial debut. As the title suggests, Le Musk, incorporates motion, music and scent in the narrative. The portions were canned in Rome, Italy, in a span of 13 days, and revolves around the tale of an orphaned heiress Juliet Merdinian. Also a part-time musician, the heiress has a superpower and constant companian- the musk scent. Her life turns topsy-turvy when she receives an anonymous message, and she soon sets out on a journey to find the men who were responsible for changing her destiny.
The star cast for the film includes Nora Arnezeder of Army of the Dead fame, Gur Burnet of Oppenheimer fame, Munirih Grace and Mariam Zohrabyan. It is said that it was Rahman's wife Saira's idea to make a film on perfumes and she wished to use scent in a narrative and make cinema an immersie experience. Interestingly, both Rahman and Saira are said to love perfumes. Screenplay for the film is by Gurachi Phoenix.
The film has been in the making for several years and is aimed at providing viewers a sensory, surreal experience. The portions were canned using 14 cameras and the post-production involved around 10 VFX houses from around the world. Rahman had earlier stated that filmmaking was a tough job and that Le Musk was a multisensory and stereo smoking experience in itself.
The film is produced by Rahman’s ARR Studios along with Ideal Entertainment and Intel. Thenandal Studio and Palani Andavar Holdings are the associate producers of the film. Le Musk can now be experienced at the Cannes Film Market and Cannes XR, at the immersive VR chair, where motion, music and scent are integrated.
