Patna Shuklla is now out on OTT. The Raveena Tandon-starring film did not opt for a theatrical release and there was a reason for that. Arbaaz Khan explained to OTTplay why and when the decision to release Patna Shuklla on OTT was taken. The film is the story about a scam in college and the response for this one is good.
“We were very sure that we wanted a film like this to get patronized on OTT. Because it's a kind of film that needed a certain amount of time and appreciation and sometimes in a theatrical release you could get affected by that response that you're looking for,” he explained.
Arbaaz also spoke about the difference in Box Office and word-of-mouth and how lower Box Office collections in the initial days can affect a movie on Monday (because it doesn’t perform over the weekend). A movie in theatres, if not noticed, has to go off screens. On the other hand, it is always available on OTT for the viewers to catch up on.
He spoke about the difference and shared, “Because you have only a very three-day window to get a maximum response. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, if your movie didn't get picked up or if there was an opposition strong or people don't go to see it, film ho usko aapko utharna hi padhta hai. Uski wajah se uski identity, uski image pe bhi farak padhta hai aur phir baad mein jab wo OTT pe aati hai toh it comes as a not-so-successful film, let’s just say, God forbid. So that also affects it, ke yaar theek hai abhi toh OTT pe hi aani thi. But agar hum OTT ke liye hi plan karte toh hum usko protect kar rahe hain ke abhi hum premiere kar rahe hain usko OTT pe because we feel the audience that the film requires is an OTT audience. It’s a more OTT friendly film. Maybe it could take time to pick up, but that luxury is there on OTT rather than in theatrical. So that’s why we were very mindful. Ek hota na, ki apna bacha hai, aap usko protect kaise kar sakte hain?”
While Patna Shuklla is out on OTT, Kareena Kapoor Khan-Kriti Sanon-Tabu’s Crew released in theatres on March 29, which happens to be a Good Friday holiday.
