Throughout the course of his career, Arjun Kapoor has established that he is as much an action hero as a romantic heartthrob. Although the actor started his career as an action hero, he also has a number of popular romantic comedies under his belt as well. Arjun recently opened up about the films he considered the ‘shock’ and ‘surprise’ in his career.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor said that the success witnessed by his 2016 film Ki & Ka came as a pleasant surprise to him. He spoke of how ‘strange’ it was considered at the time that someone like him, who started off doing ‘macho’ action roles, agreed to do a role as his in Ki & Ka. The fact that he was paired opposite an actress older than him, in the form of Kareena Kapoor Khan, also seemed to surprise people. Arjun, Kareena and director R Balki were also coming off unsuccessful films at the time.
Although the film did not track well and people weren't all that hyped for its release, Ki & Ka had ended up doing well at the box office, earning almost double what was expected from it. Although Arjun believed in the film, he said it was nice to see his belief get validated by the audiences.
The actor said that Mubarakan’s performance at the box office came as quite a shock to him. He said that the film had all the trappings to become a box office success, but it did not start off as well as the makers hoped. Arjun spoke of how maybe the makers were not able to create the desired hype through the film’s trailer, and Mubarakan also faced competition from films like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Jab Harry Met Sejal.
Arjun was last seen in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns. The actor’s upcoming releases include The Lady Killer and Kuttey.
