As of today, it has been one year since Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (SAPF) hit the silver screen. With its thrilling story and a stellar performance by its lead cast, it’s no wonder that the film ended up receiving rave reviews. However, it seems that the compelling performances in the film came at a cost to its stars, especially Arjun Kapoor, who recently revealed how the film took him to some ‘dark places in his heart’.
The actor talked about how preparing for the role had been very uncomfortable for him. Channeling his negative emotions and thoughts into his portrayal took him to some ‘really dark places in his heart’, he said. Nonetheless, the actor called the process worthwhile as it had helped him deliver a performance that has been described as one of the best in his career. Arjun also credited his director Dibakar Banerjee for guiding him to shed his inhibitions and truly become the character on screen.
Arjun also revealed how he enjoyed learning new things and to play the character of Satinder "Pinky" Dahiya, a Haryanvi police officer, he had to learn a dialect he had never spoken on screen (or in real life) before. It had taken the actor almost two months to perfect it.
Arjun also credits the film for ushering in a new phase in his career, saying that he would not have accepted roles in Kuttey and The Lady Killer if it weren’t for SAPF. He said that the film had made him a better actor as well.
"If I had to describe the impact of 'SAPF', I would say that my career should be viewed in two phases, pre-SAPF and post-SAPF," he added.
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
