Arjun Rampal: Shah Rukh Khan’s character from Om Shanti Om was ‘irritating’

Actor Arjun Rampal, who played a pivotal role in Farah Khan’s 2007 film Om Shanti Om, has called Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film ‘irritating’. In a recent interview, the model-actor also opened up about his thoughts on nepotism, explaining how star kids have an edge over others in the industry.

When asked about the connection between Shah Rukh’s character in Om Shanti Om and nepotism, Arjun said that the character’s rebirth as a “nepo” bothered him. “When he (SRK’s character) was born the second time, he becomes a nepo. It was an irritating character,” Rampal told Harpar Bazaar.

Speaking further about nepotism, Arjun said that there is definitely a huge advantage a person has if they have a family member in a profession, and if they want to start that profession, they will have a head start. They would maybe get many, many chances than another person. “That’s the destiny of that person… you don’t choose your family you are born into,” he added.

In the same interview, Arjun also spoke about his children joining the industry. He said, “I think Mahikaa is quite keen on doing it; she studied it. It’s clearly entirely up to them. I can just help them to find themselves. If they want to do it, they really have to work hard and go through the whole grind of being an actor and knowing that it’s not just about being famous or liking the wrong sides of acting of just wanting to be a star , doing photoshoots or cover shoots, flying first class or having a vanity van or making money or doing all of that.”

His second daughter, Myra, recently made her runway debut with Dior’s fashion show in Mumbai. Arjun shared the picture on his Instagram with the caption, “Today my gorgeous little princess, walked her first runway. That too for Christian Dior. The best thing about it was that she did it all on her own merit. From auditions to fittings.”

Arjun has two daughters - Mahikaa and Myra - with his ex-wife Mehr Jesia. Meanwhile, last month, Arjun’s partner, Gabriella Demetriades, announced her second pregnancy with Arjun. The couple gave birth to their first child, Arik, in 2019.
