The country woke up to a rather sad morning due to the sudden and untimely demise of Anupamaa actor Rituraj Singh. Known for his powerful roles in Hindi soap operas such as Banegi Apni Baat, Kutumb, Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and in the Rupali Ganguly-headlined series Anupamaa as Yashpal, the 59-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest. Popular film actor Arshad Warsi, who was his neighbour, tweeted about the passing.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Hindi film actor Arshad Warsi, known for playing 'Circuit' in Munnaibhai MBBS, wrote, " I am so saddened to know that Ritu Raj passed away. We lived in the same building, he was a part of my first film as a producer. Lost a friend and a great actor…"
In a statement to the Indian Express, actor Amit Behl, who was Singh's friend, said, "He was unwell. Was hospitalised 15 days ago due to some pancreatic issues." Behl further shared that Singh breathed his last at around 12.30 am after being rushed to the hospital. However, he succumbed to a cardiac arrest enroute to the hospital.
Pancreatic diseases refer to a variety of illnesses that affect the pancreas, an important organ located behind the stomach. Among these, pancreatic cancer stands out as one of the deadliest tumours globally, sometimes being discovered in its advanced stages because of its evasive signs.
Fellow actor Sandip Sikand was also "shocked and heartbroken" after hearing the news of Singh's death. Sikand pointed out, "Someone posted the news on one of my WhatsApp groups early in the morning and since then I have just been in shock."
Sikand added that he had worked with Singh in Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii, where he was warmly welcomed by the late actor. Sikand also mentioned that Singh was not only a brilliant actor but also one of the finest human beings he has known. "May his soul rest in peace and may his wife and kids get the strength to deal with this loss," Sikand sadi.
Rituraj Singh's career lasted more than 30 years. He was a part of popular shows like Kutumb, Hitler Didi, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.
