Today, i.e., on February 23, Yami Gautam and Priyamani starrer Article 370 has been released in the theatres. The film, which is based on the PMO's decision to revoke the special status granted to Jammu & Kashmir has been directed by National Award-winning Aditya Suhas Jambhale. The political drama reportedly opened on 2,200 screens in 1,500 theatres in India.
According to the reports by Sacnilk.com, the film is all set to have a strong start at the box office. The film has sold over 80,000 tickets in three national chains - PVR, Cinepolis, and INOX and is on track to sell about 1,00,000 tickets on its opening day. Article 370 is likely to mint over ₹5 crore at the box office on Day 1. The report also revealed that the film could have easily crossed the ₹10 crore mark, however, due to the reduced prices (Flat Rs. 99 on Friday), the film could bring in over ₹5 crore.
The film, which is made on a budget of around Rs 15-20 crores takes up a good start at the box office on its first day. The film is competing with Vidyut Jammwal, Arjun Rampal, Amy Jackson, and Nora Fatehi starrer Crakk at the box office. With the political plot of the film, it is to gain more footfalls at the ticket window.
Apart from Yami Gautam, Article 370 stars Priyamani, Arun Govil, and Kiran Karmarkar, among others. The film revolves around Jammu & Kashmir. Yami portrays an intelligence agent in the film who is on a mission to undermine Article 370 to combat terrorism in Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, The Central government revoked Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
On February 20, at a rally in Jammu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the upcoming film on Article 370 will help people get the correct information. “I do not know what the film is all about but yesterday I heard on TV that a film is coming on Article 370. Good, it will be useful for people to get correct information," he said.
