Arun Matheswaran, who is awaiting the release of Saani Kaayidham, is unhappy over the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision to make cuts in his film, releasing this Friday, on Amazon Prime Video.

The director told a leading English daily, “We had opted for the title, Saani Kayidham as the word has relevance to the core plot. Even after certifying my film with 'A', they have chopped scenes. I find this unacceptable. I hope the situation changes. The sequences which everyone witnessed in the trailer won't be available in the main picture, as it's just a director cut!"

Arun Matheswaran, who worked as an assistant director to Thiagarajan Kumararaja of Aaranya Kaandam and Super Deluxe fame, made his directorial debut with Rocky, starring Vasanth Ravi of Taramani-fame, which was critically acclaimed.

Also, Arun was the dialogue writer of Sudha Kongara's Irudhi Suttru.

Arun Matheswaran cast Keerthy Suresh in Saani Kaayidham, after watching her performance in Mahanati. “I loved her in that film. Moreover, the role Keerthy plays in my film is one such character that she hasn't done before. So, I thought she would be the right choice. I am glad she came on board eventually.”

Revealing his thoughts while approaching Selvaraghavan, Arun says, “Siddharth (creative producer) is close friends with Selva sir. Hence, it was easy to approach him. I just wanted to give it a shot; I met him and narrated the story. He loved it. I was a little sceptical if he would interfere in my creative choices, considering that he has been making films for a long time. But nothing of that sort happened. He trusted me completely.”

Up next, Arun has teamed up with Dhanush. Reportedly titled Captain Miller, the project, to be bankrolled by Sathya Jyothi Films, is set in the 1930s and will be a pan-Indian action-adventure.

In an interview with The Times of India, Arun had clarified that this one is not about the real-life Captain Miller, who was an LTTE (Sri Lankan Tamil Rebel group) leader. Further, Arun stated that the upcoming film is moulded on a massive budget to cater to a larger audience. "One can expect this to have a dark style of humour. Certainly, this film will be different from Rocky and Saani Kaayidham."
