The makers of Arun Vijay's Yaanai have pushed the release of the film. The action entertainer, directed by Hari, was initially scheduled to hit screens on June 17, but the makers have decided to release the film on July 1 now. The makers added that they are postponing the release due to Kamal Haasan's Vikram, which has been running to packed houses.
The makers made the announcement on their social media page today, "With all due respect to #Vikram we are postponing our #Yaanai worldwide release to July 1st Wishing @ikamalhaasan sir @Dir_Lokesh and @RKFI for the record breaking success - Team Yaanai. #YaanaiFromJuly1st @arunvijayno1 #DirectorHari @priya_Bshankar @gvprakash @ZeeTamil (sic)." The team also shared a picture with Kamal Haasan.
Yaanai is said to be a pucca commercial potboiler on the likes of Hari's previous ventures Saamy and the Singam franchise. The star cast for the rural entertainer includes Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead, along with Raadhika Sarathkumar, Samuthirakani, Ramachandra Raju, Yogi Babu, Ammu Abhirami, Aadukalam Jayapalan, Imman Annachi, Bose Venkat, Sanjeev and Pugazh as part of the supporting cast. Music for the film is GV Prakash Kumar. Cinematography is by Gopinath and editing is by Anthony. The trailer of the film was launched by Sivakarthikeyan a few weeks ago. The film is predominantly set in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Hari has stated during a press conference that he has tried something new in Yaanai as he understood that the taste of the audience was changing with time.
Interestingly, this is the first time that the brother-in-laws, Hari (married to Arun Vijay's sister Preetha) are coming together for a film. The film will release in Telugu as Enugu. The rights of the action entertainer have been acquired by CH Satish Kumar of Vigneswara Entertainments. Zee5 has bagged the digital and satellite rights of the film.
