It seems Malayalam actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has made peace with the poor showing of his latest production venture Selfiee at the box office. As the movie, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, is struggling to draw the audience to cinemas, Prithviraj seems to have moved on. He posted a picture of himself enjoying a wonderful view and sunrise from his room in some foreign country. He captioned the picture, "To new beginnings."

As one of the producers, Prithviraj leveraged his social media presence to promote Selfiee, which was the remake of his Malayalam hit Driving Licence. The film's main lead Akshay also pulled all stops to generate interest among the movie-goers. Despite the best efforts of the filmmakers, Selfiee opened to abysmal response at the ticket windows.

According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Selfiee collected less than Rs 3 crore on its opening day. "#Selfiee struggles on Day 2… The big jump - so essential after a disastrous start - is clearly missing… The poor biz continues to shock, sadden and demoralise the industry… Fri 2.55 cr, Sat 3.80 cr. Total: ₹ 6.35 cr+. #India biz," he tweeted.

Besides producing it, Prithviraj also played the lead role in Driving Licence, which was helmed by Lal Jr, from a script written by late filmmaker Sachy. The film about a clash of egos between a fan and his favourite movie star found a lot of love with the audience when it was released in Malayalam in 2019. Selfiee, however, was not so lucky.

Even getting some good reviews didn't help better the film's chances at the box office. Prithviraj bankrolled the Hindi remake along with Karan Johar. And the remake was helmed by Raj Mehta.

Prithviraj has a slew of interesting projects in the making. He's also playing the antagonist in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Prabhas-starrer Salaar.
