Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap made a faux pas when he claimed that Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram never responded to his message when he wanted to pitch his latest movie Kennedy to him. In an interview at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will be screened as part of the official selection, Anurag revealed that he wrote the movie keeping Vikram in mind. However, when he tried to reach the star, he didn't get a response forcing him to make the movie with another actor.

As Anurag's this quote went viral, Vikram was prompted to make a statement on his Twitter page, explaining his side of the story. "Just revisiting our conversation from over a year ago for the sake of our friends and well wishers on social media. When I heard from another actor that you had tried to reach me for this film & that you felt I hadn’t responded to you, I called you myself immediately and explained that I hadn’t gotten any mail or msg from you as the mail id that you had contacted me on was no longer active and my number had changed almost 2 years before that. As I said during that phone call, I’m very excited for your film Kennedy and even more so because it has my name. I wish you great times ahead. Lots of love Chiyaan Vikram aka Kennedy," Vikram said.

Anurag also acknowledged that's what transpired between them. And he said he only revealed that information to explain why he named the movie Kennedy , which is the actual name of Vikram.

While some criticised Anurag for giving just half the story and creating all confusion, many seem to be overwhelmingly thrilled about Anurag's promise to collaborate with Vikram. "There is no need for any overreaction. And definitely, I think neither Chiyaan sir or I am retiring without working together. FYI we go back to pre Sethu days," Anurag wrote, reacting to Vikram's tweet.

Many fans have since been rooting for their collaboration.

Kennedy stars Rahul Bhat in the lead, Billed as a neo-noir thriller, the movie also stars Sunny Leone as the female lead. The film will have its world premiere on May 24 at Cannes.

Meanwhile, Vikram is now recovering from an injury he suffered on the sets of Thangalaan. He's expected to resume shooting for the movie soon. Written and directed by Pa Ranjith, the historic period drama will arrive in cinemas early next year.
