Nayakan is a milestone in Indian cinema
Nayakan was released on October 21, 1987. The film became an instant classic and its reputation around the world has only grown stronger over the years. It won't be wrong to say that this film is a cornerstone of Indian cinema.
Nayakan redefined the standards for mainstream cinema, challenging conventions by delivering a sensibly artistic narrative through a star-studded, big-budget production that resonated with a wide audience.
Nayakan tells the rise and fall of a Tamil migrant living in dehumanising conditions in Bombay, now Mumbai. The film shines a light on the struggles of Tamil migrants and the rise of Velu Nayakan, portrayed brilliantly by Kamal Haasan, as their guardian angel.
Nayakan was deeply inspired by the likes of The Godfather and Once Upon A Time in America. The film's powerful and gritty portrayal of violence and crime became a watershed moment in Indian cinema.
Nayakan was also named by Time magazine as one of the 100 greatest films of all time.
Kamal Haasan's upcoming movie

He is expected to join the sets of director H Vinoth. The project, which has been tentatively titled KH 233, is expected to be an action thriller. Kamal took training in gun firing in the USA in preparation for the movie. Following this project, he will start shooting for Mani Ratnam's next.
Kamal is also part of the star-studded cast of Kalki 2898 AD. The upcoming science-fiction extravaganza also stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.
