There was a lot of anxiety and nervousness in the lead-up to Pushpa's release last year. December isn't conventionally believed to be a great month for Telugu cinema. The industry was just trying to find its feet post multiple waves of COVID-19 and Akhanda, Love Story were among the only instances where crowds came to theatres in large numbers. It was also Allu Arjun's first major release in multiple languages and the promotion, excepting the Telugu market, was very minimal.

Pushpa The Rise, true to its title, rose like a phoenix, braving all odds to emerge triumphant at the box office. While there were mixed reviews for the film on the first day, it only grew from strength to strength every passing day across languages. The biggest surprise was its performance in the Hindi-speaking belt, grossing over Rs 100 crore, braving past much-hyped films like 1983. Everything about Pushpa went onto be celebrated - from its dialogues to music to mannerisms to the underdog victory.

Today, the film, which collected over Rs 365 crore, at the box office, completes a year of its release and this day will always remain a fond memory for all Allu Arjun fans. Pushpa's victory was sweeter because it came right after Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, that broke several industry records prior to COVID-19 lockdown. Allu Arjun wasn't only celebrated for his stardom, but also his performance. Here's how Allu Arjun's fans celebrated the film on its first release anniversary on Twitter.

Devi Sri Prasad's music, Samantha's presence in Oo Antava, the cinematography by Mirosław Kuba Brożek and the slick edits contributed to the film's performance. Besides the screen presence of Rashmika Mandanna and the brilliance of Sunil, Dhananjaya and Fahadh Faasil, the supporting cast comprising Anasuya, Raj Tirandasu, Rao Ramesh and others too made a mark among audiences. The film is streaming in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam on Amazon Prime Video. Pushpa The Rule, the second part, went on floors recently.
