As Thegidi completes 10 years, did Ashok Selvan just hint that the mystery thriller will get a sequel?

Thegidi, the 2014 Tamil film starring Ashok Selvan in the lead role, completes 10 years today (February 28). A spy mystery thriller, Thegidi was a critically acclaimed film and served as one of the early successes in the actor’s career.

The makers of Thegidi celebrated a decade since the release of the film, while at the same time hinting that a sequel could possibly be on the cards. Read further to know what the team has to say.

A decade of Thegidi

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ashok Selvan, who was last seen in Blue Star, shared the poster of the film and wrote, "10 years of #Thegidi. Just feels like yesterday :) Thank you." He also wrote that "exciting updates" are coming up, hinting that a possible sequel to the film could be in the pipeline.

Many fans of the film commented that they are looking forward to watching Thegidi 2 soon. Meanwhile, a section of them posted their fondness for the film and recounted the first time they saw it.

Thegidi revolves around a criminology student named Vetri, who joins a detective agency and is tasked with keeping a close eye on three people and collecting information regarding them. While he does that, each of his targets is attacked, and Vetri also falls in love with one of them. The film ends on a note hinting at a possible sequel. Thegidi is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

Written and directed by P Ramesh, Thegidi is backed by CV Kumar and stars Janani, Kaali Venkat, and Jayaprakash in important roles. The film was shot by Dinesh B Krishnan and Nivas K Prasanna has scored the music. The song Vinmeen became one of the chartbusters at the time of its release and still gets love from music lovers. If a sequel is indeed on its way, it will be interesting to note how the makers are taking the story ahead or will have an entirely different backdrop by just keeping the essence intact.
