Kannada filmmaker SuNi’s most ambitious project to date, Gatha Vaibhava, is set to release in theatres on November 14. SuNi is introducing newbie Dushyanth as leading man and has paired him with Ashika Ranganath, who was a part of both his Avatara Purusha films earlier. This time around, the filmmaker is presenting a love story spanning several centuries and realms – from Devaloka to Vasco Da Gama’s era and modern day, among others. It explores the past lives of the lead pair and a love that seems doomed yet again, or is it?
“My first impression when I heard the script was that SuNi sir was upping his game. Yes, Gatha Vaibhava has his trademark signature to it, but he has, most definitely, attempted something new. What struck me is that I had not come across such a story earlier and it felt novel. It would be a good role to do, I felt, which would give me immense satisfaction as an actor. I have 4 roles in this story, which will give audiences the feeling of watching four films in one,” says Ashika.
The actress adds that what also appealed to her is that while Gatha Vaibhava follows the trend of period films being the flavour of the scene, it is not entirely that and blends the narrative with modern-day as well. “Gatha Vaibhava is definitely a film that I knew from the moment I heard the story that I have to do it,” she adds. This is also why that almost 4 years since they began the project and are finally bringing it to theatres, she is just as excited about the film as she was on Day 1, Ashika reckons.

Gatha Vaibhava is Ashika’s first Kannada release since 2024’s O2. The actress is a part of the Telugu fantasy film Vishwambhara featuring Chiranjeevi in the lead, as well as Sardar 2 with Karthi.
