Akashavani stars Teja Kakumanu, Vinay Varma and Samuthirakani in significant roles
It looks like the OTT platform Sony LIV has made its first major acquisition in the Telugu market. Filmmaker Ashwin Gangaraju who was in two minds about releasing his directorial debut Akashavani on OTT for some time now has finally decided to go ahead with the digital premiere of the film on Sony LIV. Akashavani is a story revolving around a tribal group's tryst with a radio set in a forest and stars Teja Kakumanu, Samuthirakani, Prashant and Vinay Varma in pivotal roles.
Akashavani, which initially aimed to hit theatres on June 4, is tentatively aiming for a release in August on Sony LIV. The film completed a majority of its shoot in 2019 and wrapped a few pending portions recently. The film's post-production work is more or less done. An official announcement regarding its OTT release is expected shortly. Akashavani's dialogues are written by Sai Madhav Burra. Ashwin Gangaraju, Sai Kumar Reddy and Colour Photo-fame Sandeep Raj have worked on the screenplay.
Suresh Ragutu, who worked recently on projects like Thellavarithe Guruvaram and Thank You Brother, has handled the cinematography for the film whose crew also includes ace editor Sreekar Prasad and composer, singer Kaala Bhairava. The film's teaser was unveiled earlier this year. Sony LIV has been in the thick of the action in the Tamil space, releasing small-budget wonders like Thaen, Vaazhl and has also finalised the deal to stream Karthick Naren's long-delayed thriller Naragasooran in August. However, the platform is yet to pick up pace in Telugu.
