The movie, directed by Jibu Jacob, also has Sidhique in a pivotal role

Asif Ali and Rajisha Vijayan’s Ellam Sheriyakum has finally dropped on OTT. The Jibu Jacob directorial, which hit theatres in November 2021, is a family drama that evolves against the backdrop of politics.
Also starring Sidhique, the movie, which was shot during the pandemic, revolves around a veteran leader KC Chacko, whose daughter elopes a day before he is set to be sworn in as Kerala Chief Minister. Three years later, as another election season looms, Chacko is pitted against the man who married his daughter.
Sidhique plays KC Chacko in the film, which has Rajisha essaying his daughter Ancy and Asif Ali as her husband and a member of a communist party. The movie marks the second collaboration between Jibu and Asif after the latter played a cameo in another political satire, Vellimoonga, which was the director’s debut venture.
On choosing to do another film with politics as the backdrop, Jibu had earlier told OTTplay, “Our state has always been in the front in terms of political awareness and education. We have a population who keenly follows politics and casts their vote based on each party’s ideologies and efforts. So, when we do a movie, I believe our audience is discerning enough to understand the politics we are trying to present.”
Ellam Sheriyakum also has Johny Antony, Kottayam Ramesh, Balu Varghese and Kalabhavan Shajohn in pivotal roles. The film, which marks composer Ouseppachan’s 200th film, also has the veteran composer in an extended cameo.
The Malayalam film is ZEE5’s Republic Day release and is available to stream on the platform from January 26. Indrajith Sukumaran’s Aaha is the other Malayalam release on the streaming service. The sports-drama, which is directed by Bibin Paul Samuel, also has Amith Chakalakkal, Ashwin Kkumar and Santhy Balachandran in pivotal roles. Incidentally, both movies released in theatres too on the same day.
