Malayalam actor Asif Ali and director Jis Joy’s latest film Innale Vare is also their most different collaboration together in terms of its theme and genre. However, one would think that Asif’s character of a movie star in the Sony LIV release was one that would have been cakewalk for him, considering he is an actor himself. Asif begs to differ.

In a recent interview, the actor that playing the character of a star convincingly was the toughest part of doing the film, which revolves around his character being held hostage by two tech-savvy strangers for money.

“I had to look like a movie star. As far as I was concerned, that was my biggest challenge because I didn’t know how or what I should do. The most positive feedback I often get is that I don’t look like an actor and so I am able to play different characters. I have the boy-next-door image. When you think of an actor, the first faces that come to your mind are Mammootty and Anoop Menon. I didn’t look like either of them,” he told The Cue.

After he listened to the script, he also said that he found its screenplay exciting. “Also, the character was the extreme opposite of who I am in real life. Plus, there were other references,” he said.

The movie, which also has Nimisha Sajayan, Antony Varghese, Reba Monica John, Rony David and Irshad, dropped on the OTT platform on June 9. It also marked Asif’s first direct-to-OTT release. Meanwhile, Jis Joy and Asif, who have already worked in five movies together, are all set to team up again for a film, which will also have another leading hero. The movie is scripted by two other writers and is expected to go on floors as soon as Asif completes his pending commitments that include Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa.
