Asif Ali is arguably director Jis Joy’s first choice for any film he does. Even for Mohan Kumar Fans, the filmmaker’s only movie to not have Asif in the lead, the actor played a cameo role. So, it’s not surprising that his next project after Innale Vare once again has him teaming up with the Kuttavum Shiskshayum actor.

Jis confirmed the details of the project as well as its casting in a recent interview, ahead of the release of his thriller Innale Vare that is set to drop on Sony LIV on June 9. Jis, who had previously directed Asif in Bicycle Thieves, Sunday Holiday, Vijay Superum Pournamiyum and Innale Vare, said that he and the actor will be reuniting for another film later this year.

The movie will also have another leading actor as part of the cast. Unlike Jis’ previous films, the upcoming film will be scripted by two other writers. The director said that the scripting of the film is complete and the project could take off once Asif has completed work on his pending commitments. Asif, who is recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the shoot of Nishanth Sattu’s A Ranjith Cinema, will complete the film before moving on to shoot his portions in Jude Anthany Joseph’s multi-starrer and Shaji Kailas’ Kappa.

The duo’s latest movie Innale Vare, meanwhile, also marks their OTT debuts. The film, which also has Antony Varghese, Nimisha Sajayan, Reba Monica John and Irshad, is based on a true incident. Asif plays a leading actor in the movie, who is reportedly blackmailed for money by an Infopark employee essayed by Nimisha.

The film, which completed its shoot last year, is inspired by an incident that actor Kunchacko Boban had told Jis. The incident had happened to Kunchacko’s friend, the filmmaker had earlier told OTTplay.
