Asif Ali has been shuttling from sets to sets after his injury on the sets of A Ranjith Cinema a few months ago had delayed the shoot of his projects for a few weeks. The actor recently wrapped up the shoot of Nishanth Sattu’s film and has now joined the sets of Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Mahaveeryar actor had previously shot a few portions of the film before his ligament injury. The movie, which also has Prithviraj Sukumaran, Anna Ben and Aparna Balamurali, is a gangster thriller that is scripted by GR Indugopan and is based on the writer’s novel Shanmukhi. Asif had earlier shared screen space with Prithviraj in Sapthamashree Thaskaraha.

Meanwhile, Aparna joined the movie after Manju Warrier, who was set to play the female lead, opted out citing scheduling conflicts with her Tamil film, starring Ajith Kumar. Earlier, Venu, who was initially set to helm the movie, had also dropped out due to creative differences with the writer.

Asif and Aparna are also set to act together in Kakshi Amminipillai filmmaker Dinjith Ayyathan’s next directorial, which also has Vijayaraghavan in a pivotal role. The movie is touted to be a family drama and is expected to go on floors by September this year.

Asif, who was lauded for his latest role as an 18th century minister in Abrid Shine’s fantasy courtroom drama Mahaveeryar, is also awaiting the release of Sibi Malayil’s Kotthu, which is set to hit theatres in August. The political thriller, scripted by Hemanth Kumar, also has Roshan Mathew, Nikhila Vimal and Sudev Nair in pivotal roles.

The actor, who made his OTT debut this year with Sony LIV release Innale Vare, has completed shooting for Sethu’s Maheshum Marutiyum and Jeethu Joseph’s thriller Kooman. He is also part of the upcoming Netflix anthology, which is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. The actor’s segment Vilpana is directed by Nair’s daughter Ashwathy and has Madhoo as the female lead.
