Asif Ali and Sunny Wayne’s realistic investigative thriller Kuttavum Shikshayum is all set to hit theatres on May 27. The movie had wrapped up its shoot last year but the makers were reportedly keen on releasing the movie in cinema halls rather than OTTs, despite the delay due to the pandemic restrictions in theatres.
However, that doesn’t mean that the film’s OTT rights weren’t sold. The movie’s streaming rights have been bought by Netflix, which recently also picked up the rights for Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Jana Gana Mana and Mammootty’s CBI 5: The Brain. Kuttavum Shikshayum is expected to stream on the OTT platform a month after its theatrical run.
The film, which is based on a true story that happened in the life of its co-scriptwriter and actor Sibi Thomas, has Asif, Sunny Wayne, Alencier, Senthil Krishna and Sharafudheen as part of its cast. It revolves around a group of policemen who travel from Kerala to Uttar Pradesh to nab the culprits of jewellery robbery case.
Shot in Kerala and Rajasthan, the movie marks Rajeev Ravi’s first release this year and will be followed by Thuramukham, a week later in theatres. In a press meet ahead of Kuttavum Shikshayum’s release, Asif said that the makers have tried their best to shoot the movie as realistically as possible, while keeping in mind the theatrical experience that the audience deserves. “That’s also why we were clear that the movie must be released in theatres instead of OTTs,” he said, adding that the film will have the same superior quality as Rajeev’s previous movies.
Asif plays a cop in the movie, which also focuses on the struggles that police officers go through during their career. The movie’s post-production had concluded three months ago, and the makers have been looking for the right date to release the movie, which is scripted by Sibi and Sreejith Divakaran.
