Assi trailer: Anubhav Sinha has teamed up with Taapsee Pannu for a hard-hitting investigative legal drama film. Titled Assi, this gripping film is inspired by the harrowing reality of sexual assault and violence faced by many women in the country. Assi marks the third collaboration between the filmmaker and Taapsee after Thappad and Mulk. On February 4, the makers unveiled a hard-hitting trailer of Assi and brought a tale of many victims who face injustice and harrowing court trials on a daily basis.

In the trailer, we meet a small happy family with a working mother, her husband, and a child. Their sweet life takes a dark turn when the mother returns home after getting gang raped. Taapsee Pannu features as a tough lawyer who decides to bring justice amid systematic corruption and male domination.

With an unsettling tone and its gripping social themes, Assi manages to hold your attention. The trailer promises the movie as a power-packed investigative film that invokes morality to fight for the right. Assi, as the name reflects, tries to stir conversations about the daily injustice and sexual assaults many women face in the country with the loopholes in our justice system. Who appears in the cast of Assi?

Assi is headlined by Taapsee Pannu as an investigative lawyer, who fights a case for Kani Kusruti. Veteran actress Revathy plays a judge in the film. The supporting ensemble also features Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. The legal thriller also has some special appearances from Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Seema Pahwa.

Anubhav Sinha, who is known for his solid narratives in movies like Mulk, Article 15, Thappad, and Tum Bin, revealed that Assi draws inspiration from today’s grim reality, and Taapsee Pannu fits the role perfectly with her natural craft.

He said, “For me, my film has to hit the core of the story. With ASSI, it felt like a loud thud exactly where it should. That impact compelled me to make this film. The story draws from everyday news, realities we often choose to ignore. To tell a story like this, Taapsee is a natural you just take her there and she delivers her best. And with Bhushan Kumar backing a film like ASSI, we know we’re striking the nail in the right corner.”

Taapsee Pannu, who looks quite promising as a devoted lawyer, shared that this movie was important to make as it brings an alarming tale about the crimes we see everyday., “I felt it was time to bring these stories together and put them in front of people to remind ourselves that what we read as everyday crime news should never be normalised. When we shaped this into a two-hour narrative, it became deeply moving for me as a performer, because it forces you to confront a reality we often look away from,” the Mulk actress added.
