The Avatar sequel is finally here! Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to the 2009 film Avatar, released in Indian theatres on December 16. The all-time highest-grossing film was James Cameron's Avatar, which made $2.9 billion worldwide. According to trade estimates, Avatar: The Way of Water appears to be continuing on the same route as when it made a record-breaking Rs 38 crore when it first debuted in Indian theatres. As a result, the movie became India's second-biggest Hollywood opening ever.

The Indian box office for Avatar: The Way of Water has gotten off to an explosive start. On its opening day on December 16, the James Cameron-directed movie reportedly made between Rs 38.50 and Rs 40.50 crore at the box office. As a result, Avatar 2 is now the second-highest box office release in the Indian market. The first was the 2019 movie Avengers: Endgame, which brought in Rs 53.10 crore on its first day of release.

The South Indian markets, such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, are the major contributers for the success of Avatar 2. They raked in Rs 22 crore in total. Indian markets in the north, east, and west also have strong occupancy. Avatar 2 easily outperformed movies like Spiderman: No Way Home, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, and Avengers: Infinity War on their opening day.

The Way of Water, the follow-up to Avatar, was released on December 16 more than a decade later. The movie follows the lives of Jake, Neytiri, and their children, who make up the Sully family. The scenario is based on how Sullys responds to Quaritch and his tribe attacking them in Steven Lang's novel. The focus of the sequel is mainly on preserving families and focusing on interpersonal ties. Leading actors in the movie include Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, and Kate Winslet. Avatar: The Way of Water released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
