James Cameron’s much-awaited sequel to Avatar is being released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam in India.
Thirteen years after Avatar released, filmmaker James Cameron is bringing the much-awaited sequel, Avatar 2: The Way of Water to theatres on December 16. Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water tells the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
In India, the film will get a multi-lingual release, with the original English film joined by dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Eagle-eyed fans and netizens were quick to spot that in a day and age when pan-India releases are normally Hindi plus the four south Indian languages, Avatar 2 was missing one ‘crucial’ language – one that has actually been creating a lot of buzz in world cinema – Kannada.
Soon enough #Avatar2InKannada began to trend on social media, with fans requesting the makers to include a Kannada version as well in their release plans.
Here’s what netizens have been saying:
It’s a shame that we Kannadigas have to literally run from pillar to post to get something that other linguistic communities readily get. How long will the cartels play this ugly game and deny us our legitimate right to watch everything in Kan? Enough is enough #Avatar2inKannada – Ramachandra M
