Filmmaker Suni’s much-awaited Avatara Purusha Part 1 had released in theatres in early May. Despite good word-of-mouth publicity, the Sharan-starrer film, though, did not set the box office on fire. And now we hear that it will soon be available to stream.
The digital rights of Avatara Purusha had been sold to Amazon Prime Video and a few days ago, the team had posted on social media that the film would soon be available on the platform. Today, the streamer announced the date. Avatara Purusha Part 1 will start streaming on June 14.
Directed by Suni, Avatara Purusha is a comedy with elements of black magic. The story revolves around the Jois family – Rama Jois (Saikumar) and his wife Susheela, whose only son Karna goes missing at a temple festival as a young child. Karna had gone to the fest with his paternal aunt Yashoda (Sudharani) and the fact that her momentarily lapse of care resulted in him going missing strains her relationship with Rama. Years later, Yashoda’s daughter Siri comes to Rama in an attempt to mend the brother-sister bond, and promises to bring their long-lost son back. Enter Anila (Sharan), junior cine artiste, tasked with pretending to be Karna.
Anila, as it turns out, has his own agenda in being at the Jois family home, as do a bunch of others, all of which boils down to the fact that Rama’s father Brahma Jois has hidden the Trishanku mani at the house. Who are these people after the gem that will give them unfettered power?
Part 1 of the film establishes the connection between the Jois family and the Trishanku mani, which has been locked up (Ashtadigbandhana). The main part of the story and the magical connect will unfold in part 2, which, Suni has said should be ready to be in theatres by Dasara this year. The delay, he said, was mostly owing to the large amounts of visual effects required, which is time consuming.
