By the time Avengers: Doomsday begins production, Marvel Studios executives might have an alternative script ready, compiling all the wild rumors that have surfaced online about the movie. So far, we’ve heard various speculations about some pivotal elements, including who will lead the film and how Jonathan Majors' Kang will be written off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But the rumor mill went into overdrive when Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU return was announced, with reports suggesting he would be re-cast as Doctor Doom. The biggest question that arose was how the studio would address him looking the same as Tony Stark. The latest update now connects him to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and hints that he might be a Tony Stark variant.
Doctor Doom - Spider-Man Update
In case you missed it, Robert Downey Jr. has been recast in the MCU as Doctor Doom. While it was initially said that only his appearance resembles Tony Stark, and that he is a completely new character, nothing is ever confirmed in the MCU until it hits the big screen. For Iron Man, his deepest bond among the Avengers team was with Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. So now, in the Multiverse saga, when Peter sees Doctor Doom, it is sure to be a pivotal moment. What adds fuel to the fire now is the latest rumor.
It was previously said that Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., is not a Tony Stark variant but a completely different character who just happens to look like Tony Stark. However, a recent rumor by My Time To Shine Hello suggests that Doctor Doom’s relationship with Spider-Man will be more important to the storyline than his relationship with Reed Richards. An earlier speculation claimed that Doom and Reed would not interact much. This rumor, however, suggests they will meet, but Peter Parker’s role will be more significant.
“I am happy to report that Doom and Reed will interact in the Avengers movies and their relationship will be important... But his relationship with Tom Holland's Spider-Man will be more important.” That said, this should be taken with a pinch of salt. But if this turns out to be true, there’s a high chance this Doctor Doom is indeed a Tony Stark variant, as that would explain the significance of his relationship with Spider-Man.
Additionally, rumors suggest that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. “I hear Captain Marvel will have a big role to play in both Avengers films,” said scooper eroter. Meanwhile, both Avengers films will be directed by the Russo Brothers, who already have Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame to their credit.
