The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently undergoing a reshuffle, which has been in progress for a while and seems to be working in the studio’s favor. We are now exploring X-Men, witches, villains, and not just superheroes, finally tapping into the world of countless exciting characters. Deadpool & Wolverine has introduced a whole new avenue in the MCU. As the Mutant Saga unfolds, we know that an X-Men movie is in the works, The Fantastic Four is on the horizon, and there are even rumors of more films and shows. Eventually, they will all come together for the Endgame equivalent of the Multiverse Saga called Avengers: Secret Wars. This movie will be a massive Marvel crossover, featuring nearly everyone—but what if we told you it might also include the Mutant Patriarch?
Confused? Well, the world is closely following every update about Avengers: Secret Wars. So far, the only confirmed names are Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and the Russo Brothers, who are both writing and directing the two Avengers movies. Secret Wars has long been a dream project for the Russos. Now, as a new rumor surfaces, fans are even more excited. The rumor suggests that we might see none other than Professor Charles Xavier himself.
There has been a lot of speculation about which actors might reprise their roles as the X-Men characters they portrayed under 20th Century Fox. Some of them have already appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, one of the biggest fan demands has been for Sir Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor X, aka Charles Xavier. According to scooper My Time to Shine Hello, the actor is set to reprise his role as Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars. There are no details yet about whether this will be a cameo or a full-fledged role.
Patrick Stewart has already made his MCU debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where he played a variant of Professor X, who was killed by Scarlet Witch. As we approach the two upcoming Avengers films—Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars—this news is sure to heighten anticipation.
The Russo Brothers have previously directed some of the MCU’s most celebrated films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. After being announced as the directors for the upcoming Avengers films during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con Hall H event, they released a statement:
"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou, and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves.”
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Stay tuned for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
