The movie, directed by Shanil Muhammed, also has Athmiya Rajan and Ketaki Narayan as part of the cast

Philips and the Monkey Pen co-writer and co-director Shanil Muhammed’s third directorial Aviyal is finally ready for release. The movie, which has Joju George, Anaswara Rajan, Sirajudeen Nazar, Ketaki Narayan, Dain Davis, Anjali Nair and Athmiya Rajan in lead roles, will hit theatres in Kerala on April 7.
The coming-of-age drama follows the life of a musician from his teenage years to his late 20s, and focuses on how his perspectives on women change with different experiences. The film has Joju and Anaswara playing a father and daughter and presented as a story that the father tells the daughter.
Debutant Sirajudeen Nazar plays the central character of a Kannur-based musician in the movie, which was shot in Kerala, Goa and Tamil Nadu. The movie shows four phases of his character’s life and the actor will be seen in different get-ups in the film. Due to the physical transformations required for his character, the team had shot the movie over a period of two years.
Incidentally, Joju had come onboard the project after 90% of the filming was done. In an interview, Shanil, who has also written the film’s screenplay, had said that he had shown the footage of the film that they had shot to the actor and he was excited to join the movie after that.
Aviyal also has four cinematographers – Sudeep Elamon, Jimshi Khalid, Ravi Chandran and Jikku Jacob Peter. It also has four editors. While the movie isn’t an anthology, based on the various cinematographers and editors as part of the team, it is sure to present a novel, different approach for each phase of its lead character’s life.
The movie also marks the first time Joju and Athmiya are working together after their superhit film Joseph, which was helmed by M Padmakumar. Aviyal is expected to release on OTT a months after its theatrical run.
