The streaming rights of Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir’s latest comedy entertainer Ayalvaashi, which hit theatres on April 21 as an Eid release, has been grabbed by a leading OTT platform as per reports.

The movie, which is helmed by Irshad Parari, has Soubin Shahir and Binu Pappu in the lead. Nikhila Vimal, Naslen, Kottayam Nazir, Lijomol Jose and Jagadish are also part of the cast of Ayalvaashi, which has music by Jakes Bejoy.

The film revolves around two childhood friends and neighbours – Thaju and Benny – who get into a quarrel after the latter’s scooter is found with dents and scratches on it. Thaju is blamed for it as he was apparently the last one seen using it. However, neither Thaju nor Benny knows who is responsible for it and Thaju takes it upon himself to find the person who has caused their friendship and their personal relationship to suffer.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Irshad, who has also scripted the film, revealed that he had initially pitched the script to Prithviraj Sukumaran, who had come onboard to act as well as produce the movie with Indrajith set to play the role that Binu had eventually essayed.

The pandemic, however, resulted in a change of plans. “Prithviraj was also supposed to produce the movie and because of that he always had the option of rescheduling the movie to a later date, but he didn’t. Instead, because he felt that the delay would be an inconvenience to me, he said that I could move on with the project with another actor. I also understood his situation because he had several big commitments lined up and was facing pressure to complete them,” said the director.

The film’s OTT rights now has been bagged by Netflix, which is expected to drop the movie by the third week of May on the platform. Incidentally, Ayalvaashi producer Ashiq Usman’s previous films – Dear Friend and Thallumaala – are also streaming on Netflix.
