The web series Ayyana Mane was commissioned as a Kannada original, which, by the time of its streaming premiere was available with Hindi audio option also. Directed by Premier Padmini fame Ramesh Indira, the show was initially announced as a 7-part tale, which the director cut down further, to present 6 episodes only about strange deaths in one particular family.
Released on Zee5 on April 25, Ayyana Mane got mixed reviews, and yet managed to set streaming records within the first week itself. The network is now looking at expanding its viewership with a Tamil-dubbed version, which, it announced, will be available from May 9.
Ramesh set his tale in the 90s at a household in Chikkamagalur where the daiva Kondayya is venerated, giving it the name Ayyana Mane. A husband, wife, their three grown sons and one daughter, live here and all is well until the young men decide to get life partners. Three women married into the home lose their lives in strange circumstances and on the day the youngest son brings home his new bride, the father also loses his life.
When it is then prophesized that Kondayya is not done with seeking souls and that at least 6 deaths will occur in the family, the new bride, Jaji (Kushee Ravi), decides to investigate the circumstances that lead to the earlier four deaths to ascertain if the family is indeed cursed or if something else is at play. Worse still, if she, Jaji, will be one of the next victims?
Besides Pindam actress Kushee, Ayyana Mane stars Manasi Sudhir, Vijay Shobraj Pavoor, Akshay Nayak, Anirudh Acharya, Hitha Chandrashekar, Archana Kottige and Kushi Chandrashekar, among others, with Ramesh, who was recently seen in the Tamil film Veera Dheera Shooran, also in a minor cameo. Ramesh, who has several TV serials to his credit, became a household name after his role as the villain Soma in Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello.
