Baai Tujhyapayi is reportedly adapted from the Tamil web series Ayali. It is set in a remote village where a girl child is seen as no more than a commodity who needs a husband after coming-of-age.

Baai Tujhyapayi's trailer is currently the buzz in Zollywood. The Marathi series, based in a village, finally speaks up on the basics - giving back every girl child their right to education. The show snaps people into the reality of remote areas in India, where a girl child is raised to be married off right after her coming-of-age. This child has little to no right to choose her own partner, let alone take her time to focus on studies and receive at least basic education (till Standard 10). The show focuses on a mother who goes against the society to get her daughter educated and the girl child who faces the horrors as she tries to do so.
Set in the small village of Vesaicha Vadgaon in 1990, a young girl named Ahilya (played by Sajiri Joshi) dares to challenge the status quo. Despite the village's strict customs that prohibit girls from pursuing education, Ahilya is determined to learn and forge her own path. Her courageous stand against blind tradition and patriarchal norms inspires her community. It brings hope and sparks change.
Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari, the series will premiere exclusively on Zee5 (OTTplay Premium) on October 31, 2025. It stars Sajiri Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Siddhesh Dhuri, and Shivraj Waichal in pivotal roles.
Sajiri Joshi, who plays Ahilya, said, “Ahilya’s story is not just about rebellion, it’s about hope. She represents every girl who has ever been told ‘you can’t.’ Portraying her journey was deeply emotional because it reminded me how education can truly change destinies. I’m proud to be part of a show that speaks to both the heart and conscience."
Kshitee Jog, who essays the role of Ahilya’s mother Lakshmi, on the other hand, had to challenge her own thought process to capture the inner conflict of every mother in a village - of whether to obey what she was taught or challenge it to allow her daughter basic freedom and right to education.
Baai Tujhyapayi will release on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium. It will be out on October 31, 2025.
