Madhur Bhandarkar earned a place for himself as a popular filmmaker in the industry, with his down-to-earth, authentic stories which, more often than not, hold a mirror up to society. The director’s next comes in the form of Babli Bouncer, a film that revolves around the story of a female bouncer. Madhur recently opened up about the inspiration behind the film, and the hilarious reactions people have to his filmography.
On his recent appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, the director revealed that he got the idea to helm a film based on a female bouncer when he saw one in a pub he visited. He believed that it was a good subject to spin a heartfelt, romantic and funny story around and started to explore that world and do research on it. During the course of his research, he came across the fact that there was a village of bouncers near Delhi, from where people used to come to the city to work as bouncers.
When host Kapil Sharma pulled the director’s leg by saying that he makes films about everything he sees, Madhur readily agreed and asked people to ‘beware’ of him. The director joked that people were afraid of him, saying that even when he goes to hospital, the doctors would look at him and ask “Hum par toh film nahi bana rahe ho na?”
He went on to speak of other similar experiences, like the times where he went to institutes and the people there asked him to helm films on subjects they suggest. He said that he felt good about such things, saying that he liked helming films based on different subjects and topics, and was blown away by the love he received from audiences.
Meanwhile, Babli Bouncer, which stars Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead, will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on September 23.
