Baby Girl: First look of Nivin Pauly-led suspense thriller hints at intense narrative

One thing that Malayalis across the world can, perhaps, agree upon is that they are all eagerly looking forward to the ‘return’ of Nivin Pauly. The actor, who at one point, was thought to be the ‘next big thing’ in Malayalam cinema, has not had a great track record for a while, with his portlier figure also the subject of intense trolling. Not long ago, as if to silence his detractors, Nivin had shared an image of himself looking dapper and like his former fit self, which had excited fans. He’s also got a string of films and a web series lined up, in what appears to be a drift in the right direction for the actor.

On the occasion of Thiruvonam, the makers of one of his upcoming projects, Baby Girl, had revealed a first look and motion poster, introducing audiences to the main characters, played by Abhimanyu Thilakan, Sangeeth Prathap, Lijomol Jose and last, but not the least, Nivin. The film, directed by Arun Varma, who’d made Garudan earlier with Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon in the lead, is also said to be a suspense thriller. The first look poster hints at an intense narrative set to unfold in the film.

Written by Bobby-Sanjay, Baby Girl was initially announced as a Kunchacko Boban project, but when he moved out, Nivin came in. There were rumours of a conflict between Nivin and producer Listin Stephen at one point, but that was seemingly ironed out later. Nivin, who was last seen in Malayalee from India, also has Dear Students, Dolby Dineshan, Sarvam Maya, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, Multiverse Manmadan, among others as his upcoming Malayalam projects.'

Baby Girl was, reportedly wrapped up in June and a release date announcement is expected shortly. Jakes Bejoy, who is currently the toast of town for his work in Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra, has scored the music, while cinematography is by Faiz Siddik. Azees Nedumangad, and Aswanth Lal have key roles in the film.
