After staying calm for some time, Akshay Kumar is back in action, this time for Bachchan Pandey. According to the latest speculations, the film was almost sold out for Rs. 175 crores to an OTT giant. However, the deal got cancelled since the film is now going to release in theatres.
A report on KoiMoi states that Bachchan Pandey was almost sold to an OTT giant. The report states that producer Sajid Nadiadwala approached an OTT giant for Rs. 175 crores so they could release Bachchan Pandey digitally.
It is to be noted that this was when Sajid wanted to release the film in January but the spike in COVID-19 cases in the month of December alarmed the producer. However, since the cases have come down and theatres are slowly re-opening, the producer decided to go ahead with a theatrical release, which is what they were looking for in the first place.
The report further even talks about Akshay’s fees for the film and it will blow your mind. Reportedly, the actor demanded Rs. 99 crores for his role in Bachchan Pandey. Furthermore, the amount is said to be what was ‘discounted’ between Akshay and Sajid.
The amount should not come as a huge surprise since Akshay is actually one of the highest-paid actors in Bollywood. However, if the news is true, he was actually paid half of what the film was going to be sold for.
Bachchan Pandey is touted to be the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit film, Jigarthanda. The movie also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.
Featuring Akshay in the lead role, Bachchan Pandey was supposed to release in theatres in January. However, thanks to the COVID-19 situation, the film’s release has been pushed to March 18, 2022.
