According to USA Today, co-producer Joanna Gaines felt an unexpected emotional state after arriving at the shooting set of Back to the Frontier. She stated that she had a deep sense of peace while watching the families and she felt at home. Joanna further stated that the idea that these three families got out of their busy rut and got to have this experience of 8 weeks together, she felt it was like a spiritual experience for them.
