Bad Girl release date: Debutant Varsha Bharath’s coming-of-age tale to hit big screens along with Madharasi

We had earlier reported that there an upcoming Tamil film titled Bad Girl, which will be directed by former assistant of director Vetrimaaran, Varsha Bharath. The makers on Tuesday announced that the film is set to hit theatres on September 5.

Bad Girl, the upcoming Tamil film which had been in the centre of controversy, thanks to its trailer, has finally gotten a release date. Censored with U/A certificate, the film has had a global festival run, Bad Girl. The film which appears to be a bold and emotionally stirring coming-of-age drama, is all set to release in theatres across India on September 5. The film will be releasing alongside Sivakarthikeyan-starrer and AR Murugadoss directorial action thriller Madharasi.

Written and directed by debutante Varsha Bharath, and produced by filmmaker Vetrimaaran, the film is presented by Anurag Kashyap under the banner of Grass Root Film Company. Bad Girl has garnered widespread critical acclaim and accolades on the international film festival circuit. This includes the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Young Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the 40th Cinema Jove - Valencia International Film Festival in Spain. The film is also set to screen in other film festivals.

The film talks about a girl coming from an orthodox family as she seems to be breaking every norm that is imposed on women in today’s society. Exploring the themes of identity, freedom, and resistance, Bad Girl features an ensemble cast including Anjali Sivaraman, Shanthi Priya, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, Sashank Bommireddipalli, and Saranya Ravichandran.

The technical crew includes Preetha Jayaraman (ISC), Jagadeesh Ravi, Prince Anderson, while the editing is handled by Radha Sridhar. Amit Trivedi has scored the music. National Award-winning music director has composed six songs for the movie. The teaser of the film was released by the makers earlier, earning some backlash for its content.
